Basketball club Partizan won their 11th national title in a row. Women’s volleyball selection had one victory and two defeats on the second weekend of the Grand Prix. The World Volleyball Federation stated the composition of groups at the Olympic Games, in both competitions. Serbian kick-boxing selection won the first WAKO Grand Prix by defeating Russia in the finals. Petar Popovic has more in the Sports Roundup.

The basketball club Partizan has won the 11th title of Serbian champions in a row, after the triumph over the Red Star in the final series of the play-off, with 3:1. On Friday, Partizan was victorious in the fourth match with the result 86:82. One minute before the end, the result was 80:80, but then the “red and whites” played two bad actions, which seem to have decided the outcome. Macvan lead Partizan to the victory with 19 points scored, helped by Lucic (14) and Bertans (11); while in the Red Star standing out were Thomas with 23 and Popovic with 22 points.

Women’s national volleyball selection lost on Sunday in Belgrade against Turkey with the result 3:1, in a match of the third round in the Group H, on the second weekend of the Grand Prix. The current European champions were previously defeated by Cuba with 3:0, but on Friday our team bested Argentina with 3:1. The third weekend of the Grand Prix will be played next week in Thailand.

The World Volleyball Federation has stated the composition of the groups for the Olympic Games, in both competitions. In women’s competition, Serbia will play in the Group B, against USA, Brazil, China, Turkey and Korea; and playing in the Group A are Great Britain, Japan, Italy, Russia, Dominican Republic and Algeria. In men’s competition, the Serbian selection will also be in the Group B, along with Brazil, Russia, USA, Germany and Tunisia; while the Group A will consist of Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Argentina, Bulgaria and Australia. In each group, four selections will qualify for the quarter-final. The volleyball tournament in London will be played from July 28 to August 12.

President of the Serbian Olympic Committee Vlade Divac has confirmed that so far our Olympic team counts 110 representatives, which is a big number for a relatively small country. “We will have few more chances for additional norms in swimming, so the final number of participants at the Olympic Games in London will be known in a few days”, said Divac, reminding that Serbia is two medals short from winning 100 since the founding of the national Olympic committee.

The Serbian kick-boxing selection is the winner of the first WAKO Grand Prix, after the triumph over the national team of Russia with the result 3:2 in the finals. In the brilliant atmosphere of the Belgrade Expo Center, the points for Serbia were brought by Milos Anic, Stevan Zivkovic and Nenad Pagonis. Our selection reached the finals through the victories over Greece and Romania, while Russia had defeated France and Hungary. The award find for this competition is 100 thousand dollars. Both national teams, i.e. Serbian and Russian, were previously received by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic.
