Representatives of the coalition around the Socialist Party and those of the Progressive Party have coordinated at today’s meeting the political goals and tasks of the new Serbian Government, and they have underlined that it should be formed within the next 15 days. Jelica Tapuskovic has more.
The meeting lasted approximately two hours, and during the session it has been confirmed that the ne Prime Minister will be leader of the Socialist party Ivica Dacic, while other personnel solutions have not been discussed. As pointed by Dacic, the initial proposal is that the Government is composed of 15 ministries. According to him, the Progressive Party and the coalition around the Socialist Party differ in opinions on some things that had happened in the past, but they share the determination to d everything in order to make the present and the future in Serbia better – making Serbia a member of the EU, developing good relations and being the factor of stability in the region, clan of corruption and crime, the country of social justice. Dacic has stressed that there will be no problems in cooperation with the Progressive Party, because the political relations and attitude to Serbia supersede the personal issues. He has announced that in the following days he will talk to the United Regions of Serbia and the parties that so far have not expressed the wish to be in the parliamentary majority, since the principles of the new government are of great importance for everybody.
“We believe it is very important that the bodies of the new authorities are constituted as soon as possible, and it should be done in two steps – first, finish the constitution of the new parliament by electing the president and the vice president of that institution; second, hold a new sitting, to elect the new Serbian Government. However, that presupposes the adoption of the bills and changes to the law on ministries. We expect to finish everything in the next 15 days or so”, stated Dacic.
Acting President of the Progressive Party Aleksandar Vucic has said that the future government must fight fiercely against the corruption and crime, and that one of the main goals is having the date set to open the negotiations on the membership in the EU. Vucic has added that his party will pledge to cancel the restrictive law on public informing and procurements. As he has announced, the future government will have a hard work to do, and the making of a detailed plan and program will start on Monday, while in the next five days the work on government’s structure should commence, too.
“The cooperation with the Socialist Party was not established in the previous period. This is certainly not an easy thing for either party. In the Progressive Party we had the choice to either prolong the agony and suffering caused by the 12-year rule of the previous authorities, or to try and introduce changes in Serbia and create a different ambiance and better life for our citizens”, underlined Vucic.
The leaders of the two parties have stated that there were no talks on the coalition in Belgrade, but the situation will be analyzed in the following days in some local self governments.
