UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has stated, on the occasion of the forthcoming visit to the countries of the West Balkans, that the entire region has passed through significant transformation and plays an important role, not only in Europe, but on the global level as well. He told the Serbian national TV that he would visit six countries and Kosmet, but stressed that this visit will be in line with UN Security Council’s Resolution 1244. Asked about the present role of UNMIK, Ban responded that its mandate will remain in line with Resolution 1244, but in the transitional period the EULEX will take over more significant role. He has added that during the visit to Serbia he will meet with President Tomislav Nikolic, Prime Minister designate Ivica Dacic and also Vuk Jeremic, who will be the president of the UN General Assembly over the next one year. Ban has stated that the Serbian people should be proud of having their foreign minister in that position.
